WHAT I WORE:: SPRING STAPLES

24 Apr
Spring must-have: Panama hat
A non-black purse
Updated gladiator
Lightweight scarf
I’m pulling a Kate Middleton and wearing something twice.
Ok thrice, this is the third appearance of this romper on the blog (I knew the day would come when I ran out of  outfits to do outfit posts with). You may recognize it as my ACL attire and also the outfit I wore on family vacation, which incidentally is virtually the same as this one. Whatever.
Fun fact: This romper used to be a full length pantsuit. A strange vintage find in which the pant legs ballooned out and then tapered down to be tight around the ankles (picture a black clown suit). So one day, I took a pair of scissors and cut the legs off to create what is now a staple of mine. If you look closely, you’ll see that I never hemmed the edges (and don’t intend to).
Seeing as this is a Spring Staples post, you’ll probably seeing these pieces throughout spring. For example those sandals – they are going to get me through spring AND summer with their slightly edgy basicness.
Another fun fact: I buy men’s scarves. I always prefer the fit and color of them, and this scarf is no exception. I can’t actually imagine a man wearing it, but I know I wear it at least once a week. Scarves are perfect for spring because they’re a good piece to wrap up in when the temperature suddenly drops, or the AC is on too high. I always have one with me at work.
The hat is another fav, but I must warn you: there is a fine line between park ranger and cowboy with this hat, depending on how far back or forward you wear it on the head. Just something to keep in mind.

What are your Spring Staples? Did I leave anything out?

What I Wore:: Austin Graffiti Park

26 Mar
Hey loves! So it’s 12:30 (at night) and I was already in bed. But then I decided to get up and eat some chips and hummus… oh and write a quick blog post. One hour and half a tub of hummus later, I bring you this outfit post! This was taken at the end of a perfect Austin day, just as the sun was setting (golden hourrr) in this random graffiti park on a neighborhood street. We took these photos to the tune of spray cans shaking and the scent of fresh paint in the air.
Austin weather is vacillating between the 80’s (last Monday) and the 30’s (this Monday) and it’s throwing my wardrobe for a loop. So on this day I wore layers layers layers. I really liked the combo of a jeweled t-shirt with an unbuttoned chambray (my favorite!), and a parka on top for warmth. I also threw on a metallic skirt that some might consider evening attire, but to me it makes more sense with a t-shirt and sneakers. Oh the sneakers! A Target find, can you believe it?

KATE BOSWORTH NUDE

19 Nov

Now I haven’t asked her personally, but I have a hunch I know what Kate Bosworth’s favorite color is to wear. And I can see why, Kate’s coloring works best with the ‘blank canvas’ look, coincidentally the blank canvas look bodes very well for her Jewelmint collection – all jewelry looks against it! Besides, Kate’s best accessory (and pop of color) has always been her mis-matched eyes. Truly mesmerizing to look at. What I’d give for 2 different colored eyes!

DREE WEARS NEON

16 Nov

Here’s how Dree wears neon. If I had on leather pants, pointy toe heels, and a bead embellished jacket, I most certainly would not have thrown on a neon orange beanie. A neon orange beanie, the kind I imagine construction workers might wear, or fishermen. How did Dree make that decision to put that on? Do you think she laid out her outfit the night before, carefully planning the beanie for its unexpected statement? Or maybe she had planned a formal look but while she was out her head was cold and she needed a beanie, she ducked into a store and this orange hat was all they had. Or maybe she saw a street style photo of someone in neon, pinned it to her “Street Style” Pinterest board and then went shopping for a similar hat. Somehow, I think that it was much more effortless than all of those options.

Have a neon weekend!

WHAT WE WORE:: NEON LOOK 1

13 Nov
Nancy and I are both feeling excited about our new neon pieces – mine is a sweater from J.Crew (cashmere! majorly discounted!) and Nancy’s is a crop top turtleneck from Tobi. We’re going to be showing you a few different ways that we wear neon over the next couple of weeks, and this is Look 1. I’ll be totally up front with you, this first look was 100% inspired by this outfit. It may or may not be the whole reason I bought the sweater.
ON ME:

BEST IPHONE CASE

11 Oct

Amidst all of the luxury shoes and handbags I spied during Fashion Week, this cheap and cheerful “purse” was my favorite! Giovanna Battaglia’s iPhone case played right into my motto to never take fashion or design too seriously. I don’t know if I’ll ever part with my (first and only) iPhone case, but when the day comes I’ll be channeling Giovanna! I found these on a site called Candies Gifts, but I know there tons of these on Ebay and Amazon for about $5, a steal!

I realize this totally toes the line between fun and tacky… but if Giovanna says it’s chic then I’m going to take her word for it.

What do you guys think? Too tacky?

WHAT TAYLOR WORE:: FASHION WEEK 2013

9 Oct

Day two of our Fashion Week recap, it had to be Miss Tomasi Hill. You never know what she’s going to do next, whether she’ll pull out all the stops or just go simple with a collared shirt and jeans. One thing is a constant though: that hair. It’s always hard to choose a favorite, but in this case I could not get over that floral print dress with her cropped leather moto jacket. I think what excites me most about that look is that we can all pull it off! We all have a pretty dress that could stand to be toughened up by a little leather. And if you haven’t seen the word transition enough lately, then here it is again. It’s simply the best way to transition your leg baring dresses into fall.
Which is your favorite TTH look?

WHAT SHE WORE:: MIRA DUMA, FASHION WEEK 2013

8 Oct

Fashion Week (month) can be overwhelming. Not only do all of the runway shows occur simultaneously, but a plethora of street style shots accompany them. In an effort to organize my thoughts, (and organize my pins!) I’ll be posting my fashion week favorites all week. Stay tuned for my favorite outfits, my favorite street style mavens, and if I can manage to sift through the shows, my favorites of those too! Of course, I had to start the week off with my number one girl, Miroslava Duma. She shows us petite brunettes how to work what our mamas gave us. And as you can see from this collection of fashion week outfits, she always changes it up! I think her best look was the embellished Burberry trench. I meannnn. Someone pretty please diy that.
Let me know if there are any fashionistas you’d like to request!

Fall Trending:: Oxblood

4 Oct
My latest coco+kelley post focused on the color of fall, oxblood! I know, offputting name, but such a  lovely color. Every time I do a street style post on coco+kelley I start noticing it everywhere. Seriously. Overalls everywhere right now. Self-fulfilling prophecy? Maybe.
Same goes for this deep burgundy shade. I had to share all of my oxblood finds with you all.

THIS WEEKEND WHY NOT… RED CARPET INSPIRATION!

28 Sep

I have citron on the brain, and it’s clear why. Julianne Moore and Julie Bowen were the two stand-out dresses for me at the Emmy’s. Julianne’s dress was the most memorable for me, and Julie’s was the one I’d most likely choose to wear myself. It’s no coincidence that citron is (and always has been) the accent color here on FUJI FILES. It’s my favorite. And I’m loving that it was so well represented at the Emmy’s this year!

So this weekend, why not take a cue from the Red Carpet and work a little citron into your outfit?
