JEFFREY CAMPBELL KNOWS WHAT I NEED

30 Aug
I’m not sure when it happened, or how, but somewhere along the way I developed a serious addiction to black ankle boots (for proof see here). Particularly black ankle boots with a buckle or two and a little something extra going on. My Chloe Sussan boot-a-likes are probably my most worn shoe of all time, and my Sam Edelman Zoe’s are definitely my most prized. But I can already tell that this boot, with its buckle detailing and head-turning cut outs, is a prime candidate for most worn and most prized boot of 2013.
I say 2013 because it is only available for pre-order, and won’t ship until NOVEMBER 26!?! What a tease. To put these boots just out of reach. I suppose the fact that they won’t be available until November gives us plenty of time to deliberate on the $195 price tag and the practicality of wearing boots with bits missing. How would they look with pants? And it would make for very awkward sock situations…

DIY FILE:: CURTAIN ROD CANOPY BED

29 Aug

 I’ve always wanted a canopy bed. Maybe it was the idea of closing off the curtains and hiding away in a dreamy cave of fabric, or maybe it’s some Disney princess complex. When I was little I would hang beach towels and bedsheets from the top bunk of my bed, and then when I was in college I lofted my bed up and created a study area underneath it (yea, I studied under my bed) so this fantasy is a long time coming.

Now with this super simple DIY by Michelle Adams, Editor in Chief of Lonny Magazine, it’s feeling almost within reach! She simply drilled West Elm Industrial Pipe Curtain Rods into her ceiling with 6 panels of her favorite fabric hanging from them. Of course she chose very fine fabric and a soft velvet as a lining, but I’d be happy with Ikea curtains!

All I need now is a bedroom where I can drill into the ceiling! Once that’s sorted, I’m totally trying this. Also, that black & white dot painting above her bed looks totally diy-able too!

BEAUTY FILE:: TOP KNOT

28 Aug
I’ve always been a bunhead. I did ballet for 16 years, plus my hair has always been twice as thick as everyone else’s – so buns were the most practical and effective way to do my hair! I never quite grew out of this quick fix (as in, I wear one almost every day) so isn’t it lucky that buns are totally en vogue right now? Of course they’ve had a fresh makeover (right on top of the head & a looser twist) and a new name, the top knot. It took me a while to adjust to having my hair up so high on the head, and not quite so tight, but this video is a really easy step-by-step tutorial to get the updated bun!
I’m trying to break my bun habit but what with all of the models-off-duty sporting this ‘do I’m finding it even more difficult than before. Perhaps I should just cut it all off 😉

Have you seen it all before?

22 Aug

Hey dear reader. I recently stumbled across this editorial on Aussie babe Mandy’s blog Oracle Fox. I scrolled through the photos thinking to myself ‘oh I remember this editorial, white buttoned up collar, grey sweater, winged eyeliner, this must be from 2010? 2011?’

Wrong. Elle France August 2012. August 2012! This editorial is brand new and I could have sworn I’d seen it before. Ever have editorial deja vu?
Now I’m conflicted here, because I love that Alexa Chung is focused, distinct and consistent in her personal style. If you were to cover up her head and show me a photo I could tell right away that it was her. And I love that about her. I hope to one day get to a point where someone could do the same for me. But part of me wonders, where’s the fun in that? Is it repetitive and does it even verge on boring?

Have we seen it all before?

DENIM ROMPER AKA OVERALLS

16 Aug

My latest post for coco+kelley is up, and this week I explore overalls, or denim rompers (as I like to think of them)! Yes, that 7th grade staple which was so super cool with a Limited Too t-shirt and a mood ring. My best friend and I used to both wear overalls and our hair the same and then show up to school and pretend it was a coincidence… I just considered backspacing and deleting that last sentence but then decided no, it stays. I said I was going to try and share more on the blog and there you go I just did!
To all the young fashionistas who wear overalls with their best friend and think it’s the coolest thing a girl can do – this one’s for you! And if you’d like to see the little look I styled using overalls, check it out here!

GOLD CHEVRON TRAY

15 Aug

I’ve been seeing this little gold tray everywhere! Ok, in 3 places. But still.
1. I first saw it when putting together my gift guide for coco+kelley.
2. Then it popped up again on Camille’s fab Game Night spread
3. And this week again it’s in Jenn’s Olympics-inspired layout!
Is this the universe telling me it’s time to make this baby mine?
My keys and sunglasses would look right at home resting in this chevron tray by the front door, or holding mail, jewelry, even hors d’oeuvres!
Universe, I hear you loud and clear.

A PINK WEDDING

9 Aug

These two should get married. And their wedding color should be pink. And I should be the maid of honor (Elisa, pick me!). And the cake will be a white chiffon cake with raspberry filling. And the bride will wear these Dior Barbie shoes.

If you follow me on Instagram you’ll know that last weekend I watched the Audrey Hepburn film Funny Face (one of my favorites) and I instagrammed the “Think Pink” dance number – doors painted pink, pink ballgowns, pink shampoo – that movie’s so jam-packed with inspiration I may have to write a whole blog post on it. Now please excuse me while I go finish planning a hot pink wedding for these two pink lovers!

Is this what normal people do in their spare time?

STREET STYLED:: STRIPES + SANDALS

8 Aug
NECKLACE LOW LUV | DRESS FREE PEOPLE | BAG MODCLOTH | SANDALS RACHEL ZOE | CUFF MADEWELL

You guys will never believe me when I tell you this, but in this photo you can’t really tell what Karlie’s bag looks like. So I just chose the bag that I would wear with this outfit and LOOK! After creating this post and choosing all of the items I found this alternate view and it’s the saaame bag!

I believe this is what they call uncanny

So as I said in the caption above, this is the type of dress you wear on those days when you wake up feeling particularly skinny. When you have that magic flat morning tummy and you just wanna wear something fitting and show it off. Until you eat lunch. But we’ll worry about that later.

CHARLOTTE RONSON’S APARTMENT

7 Aug

Charlotte Ronson is just. so. cool. Everything about her is cool, and we all know I already have an uber crush on her sister Annabelle Dexter-Jones. (Oh and if you haven’t heard of Charlotte Ronson, perhaps you know her other sister Sam Ronson of Lindsay Lohan fame). So for this week’s Bring it Home post on CamilleStyles I was inspired by Charlotte’s dreamy bedroom and recreated the look! You can find all of the items here.
The problem is, now I NEED the tassel sheets. And the cat eye mask. And the vintage movie posters. Maybe I could settle for just the tassel pillow cases.

SUMMER SERIES:: DENIM + HAT

6 Aug
HAT J.CREW / SHIRT ZARA / SHORTS ZARA / SHOES ANTHROPOLOGIE (old)

It’s no secret that I love and wear these shorts all the time. So much. Too much. But I can’t help it! They have a nice loose waistband which allows for lots of eating and a relaxed wash that matches everything I own. So I wear these shorts and I’m not even sorry bout it.

This my friends will be the last post in my denim shorts Summer Series! Not to say that I won’t be wearing these for the rest of the summer (because I certainly will), just that it might get a bit repetitive around here. I really enjoyed showing the different ways I wear this fav of mine, and being realistic about the fact that I do, yes, repeat my outfits. {Thanks Kate Middleton for repping repeat wearers everywhere}.

I’ll be brainstorming ideas for my next outfit series, if you have any suggestions I’d LOVE to hear them!
