WHAT TO WEAR TO:: AUSTRALIA FASHION WEEK

4 May

This week was Mercedes-Benz Australia Fashion Week! I spent the last 3 years living in Sydney so I’d give anything to be there right now. Say I was making the trip, this is what I would pack. And just to get into the spirit, this post is 100% Australian designers!

We’ve got Bassike, my favorite t-shirt label (soo comfy). That coveted Bec & Bridge hat I fell head over heels for last season. Print masters Dion Lee and Sass and Bide. The perfect heel by Tony Bianco. And a pretty bra (which I own in hot pink!) by One Teaspoon.
Find them here:

LOOKBOOK:: MAURIE & EVE

26 Apr

I love a lookbook that I can apply to my own closet. At a glance you may see this lookbook and think “I could never wear a head-to-toe printed jumper.” But take a closer look! Metal-tipped collars are a fun way to add a small dose of edge to a look, this shirt and this sleeveless top are both subtle. Silk patterned shorts are an easy way to stay comfy in the heat and still look fierce, try these or these. Then there’s the most feminine shape of the season, the peplum! And the easiest breasiest way to stay covered up yet cool this summer, wide-legged trousers, these ones are glorious.

 Are you rocking any of these styles this summer?

LEOPARD + WINGED EYELINER + POP ART

22 Mar

If my side part was this deep, and my eyeliner this winged, I would look.. silly. But I’m going to try it in the mirror later nonetheless. This is the new Karla Spetic collection featuring lots of pop art, leopard print, stripes, and a bright to-die-for yellow! This lookbook reminds me of this killer editorial from Vogue Australia, and appeals to the ladylike 50’s vibe that is really tugging at my heart strings of late. I bought a beautiful yellow sundress when thrifting last week, I think it had something to do with the fact that I was already wearing a polkadot sundress and wearing fuschia lipstick..
I was under the influence of my clothes!

Does this ever happen to you?

LONDON FASHION WEEK:: SASS AND BIDE

18 Sep

sass and bide spring summer 2012 london fashion week

Suddenly I’m thinking WAIT, Summer! Don’t go!
I must quickly spray paint my necklaces neon yellow and pair orange with blues and yellow with beads!
Always happy to see great design coming out of Australia. The Aussie designer duo first showed at London Fashion Week in 2002, and they’ve grown into a wildly successful label since then, fueled by appearances on Sex and the City.
We were on our way to an appointment and walked past the set of Sex and the City where Sarah Jessica Parker was filming, I took off my denim jacket and handed it to the security guard who gave it to SJP. She loved the jacket, asked us to her trailer for an appointment and then commissioned us to make a few one-off pieces for the show.” – Sarah Jane Clarke

We should all be so gutsy! It clearly pays off.

It was Elena Perminova who first alerted me to my dire need for a pink hat, and it was Bec&Bridge’s recent collection at Rosemount Australia Fashion Week that sealed the deal. The hats were the result of a collaboration with hatmaker Akubra. I love love a good collaboration, and I think it was a brilliant move for  Aussie label Bec&Bridge to pair up with Akubra – there is nothing more quintessentially Australian than an Akubra! (They usually look a little more like this). Clearly I need a pink akubra to throw in with a white tee, boyfriend jeans, and some stilettos. Expect these to be popular with the street stylers!

RUNWAY:: LOVER

Definitely one of my favorite collections to come out of Rosemount Australian Fashion Week was Lover’s lace amazingness. Bloggers go gaga for pretty much anything lace or crochet, so I’m quite sure this collection will have the rest of the fashion world in a tizzy too. Wondering who will wear this to a premiere, Florence Welch in the long white lace? Kate Bosworth in the red lace with nude ballet flats? And imagine the editorials! Can’t wait to see this collection in action.

STREET STYLE:: RAFW

Checking out Sydney street style during fashion week, the standout element was all of the color!

I love seeing how the girls used it, and I’m definitely inspired to work some more brights into my own wardrobe, in particular pinks, reds, and citron. And Christine, what can I say? She deserved her very own page in this post. She’s wearing my dreampants with a Bassike tee and a killer collar. Well done Sydney!

RUNWAY:: Josh Goot RAFW

We’ve been seeing loads of innovative designs using digital prints in recent years, but Josh Goot is the undeniable master of the craft. The enlarged brush strokes reminded me of the artist James Nares’s paintings. I can’t wait to see how the tastemakers wear these looks in real life! This is one of those collections that has my imagination running wild – I’m picturing Anna Dello Russo with a fantastical headpiece on, or Christine Centenera in one of the paint splattered skirts paired with a structured black top. And the shoes! Just imagine all of the beautiful shoes you could wear with these dresses! The last is obviously my pick, I think some fierce black booties would look so sharp. I’m always happy to see Australian talent thriving, stay tuned for more RAFW posts this week!

RUNWAY:: SYDNEY FASHION FESTIVAL MAKE UP AREA

20 Sep

I can’t believe I forgot to show you this! While sorting through various memory sticks I found these photos from the Sydney Fashion Festival. I was taking some shots back in the make up area when guess who floated through this door.. Samantha Harris! She was stunning in person, like I was actually stunned, so the only photo I got was a creeper shot from behind. Way to be a creeper Cristina. Way. to. go.
