WHAT TO WEAR:: SUMMER BASICS!

8 Jun
dress, sunglasses, ring, bronzer, chambray shirt, striped tank, lip scrub, black shorts, ripped shorts, purse, lip gloss, boots Zara ’11 (similar), hat, necklace

This is my summer playlist.
I can’t stop wearing variations on this theme: black cutoff shorts, striped top, loose dress, denim shirt, REPEAT.

It’s a little bit embarrassing looking in my closet these days and seeing 6 denim shirts hanging alongside 8 striped shirts, to the untrained eye they might all look the same. But you must understand me when I say, dear readers, that they are not the same. The denims are different washes, the stripes are different widths, the blues are different shades! You get me, right? Or maybe it looks like I’m wearing the same thing every day.. I don’t care, I love my little collection. And I especially loved making this collage because it is largely a selection of items I actually own and wear daily. I got those boots for my birthday last year, and I got that Panama hat just last week and have been wearing it non-stop! And I’m living in black cutoff shorts these days, I find the longer cut so much more flattering than short shorts.

One summer item I don’t yet have and am dying to try is Nars Laguna bronzer, right now I’m using Hoola by Benefit  (my first ever bronzer). Ever since I hit the pan on my Hoola I’ve been dreaming of what to try next, and my heart’s set on Laguna!

Do you guys have any tried and true bronzers for summer?

WEEKEND WARS:: THE LOOK FOR LESS!

25 May

Three. Day. Weekend. Is there anything better than those three little words? I don’t think so. For this loong Memorial Day weekend I put together a chic look you can wear to the pool, to the beach, to the lake, to the park, or anywhere you desire – and then I found it for less!!

In a fun twist of fate, the look for less costs exactly 10% of the original look.
$810 vs. $81
I didn’t even do that on purpose.
The Look:
TOTAL: $810
For Less:
TOTAL: $81
With the $729 that you save on this outfit, you can even afford that Chloe scalloped bikini (and pay the rent!) that I’ve decided is the absolute most perfect bikini I’ve seen in all my years. It’s been about 3 summers and I still want it. It must be love, right? If you still don’t want to shell out for the original, you can DIY your own scalloped bikini for $9. See here.

Happy Three Day Weekend!

WEEKEND WARS:: Working Weekend

18 May

Can you believe it’s already Friday? Has it already been whole a week since I packed up and got on the road for my lil trip? I have no such plans this weekend, in fact quite the opposite. I’m working! Don’t get me wrong I have an awesome new job and I’m happy to do it, so I put together a little look at what I’d like to be wearing. You can also interpret this post as basically everything on my wish list right now. Literally, I have a Pinterest board called “Wish List” and all of these are on it. The boyfriend jeans have been on that list for a long time, and I’m starting to think it’s about time I own a pair of jeans that is not skinny. But I still have a slight hang up about paying lots of money for ripped clothing. Ah well, it’ll probably happen sooner or later.

1. shirt TOPSHOP / 2. notebook & pen NEEDSUPPLY / 3. sunnies TOPSHOP / 4. scarf METROPARK / 5. earrings MADRONA STUDIO / 6. bag ZARA / 7. shoes JCREW / 8. jeans ZARA
Happy Friday!

WEEKEND WARS:: ROAD TRIP!

14 May

I had just the most wonderful weekend! I went to visit my love M in Dallas Fort Worth and managed to capture it with this fabulous new app I bought on Friday (called Super8). We went antiquing, dream house hunting, swimming (ok we sat in the hot tub), watched M’s play, followed by dinner at the Woodshed Smokehouse, and then to the Chihuly exhibit at the Arboretum! It’s going to be hard to go back to work today… I may or may not be watching this video over and over again to relive my weekend. So many firsts: the first trip of the summer, my first attempt at shooting a video with the first iPhone app I’ve paid for, and my first video successfully uploaded to Fuji Files! Unfortunately I’m almost entirely behind the lens in this one, must remember to turn the camera on myself more often next time. But overall I’m quite pleased 🙂

I highly recommend Super8 to any Instagram addicts, it’s definitely the next step in capturing life through a super cute filter – but with movement and music! I’m so looking forward to making more of these.

Let me know if any of you have tried out Super8!

WHAT TO WEAR TO:: AUSTRALIA FASHION WEEK

4 May

This week was Mercedes-Benz Australia Fashion Week! I spent the last 3 years living in Sydney so I’d give anything to be there right now. Say I was making the trip, this is what I would pack. And just to get into the spirit, this post is 100% Australian designers!

We’ve got Bassike, my favorite t-shirt label (soo comfy). That coveted Bec & Bridge hat I fell head over heels for last season. Print masters Dion Lee and Sass and Bide. The perfect heel by Tony Bianco. And a pretty bra (which I own in hot pink!) by One Teaspoon.
Find them here:

WEEKEND WARS:: COACHELLA

20 Apr

In our very first installment of Weekend Wars (a brand new series here on Fuji Files!), we’re packing for Coachella! Now packing is a pain no matter where you’re going, so just imagine packing for a fashion-forward festival where you’re sure to bump into the likes of street style photographers, models off duty, and industry insiders. Worst. Nightmare. The best packing advice I ever heard was to pack your suitcase in a unified color palette, so that  you can mix and match a multitude of different outfits.  Like with anything, it’s best to start with a neutral base and then layer your color on top of that. Resist the urge to pack colorful sundresses because you really only get one wear out of them, and separates are much more versatile. I layered a range of different pink tops with my black and white shorts, and though they are in the same color palette there is a lot of variety in the prints – dots, stripes, lips, faces… Unlike that yellow sundress, you can wear these in combination with black jean shorts and no one would ever notice you wore the same thing two days in a row!

With just one pair of shoes, two pairs of shorts and these four shirts (requisite crop top included), I counted up to TWELVE different outfits that you could rock! Not to mention mixing up the accessories. Can I please get some points for narrowing it down to one pair of shoes? Even if this is a hypothetical suitcase, it was hard.

And if you have any requests for the next Weekend Wars, (perhaps you have a date or an event planned) be sure to leave ’em in the comments below!
