DIY FILES:: SPRING PATIO MAKEOVER

28 Mar

PLANTS  /  PAINT BRUSH  /  PAINT  /  POTS

We’ve all been crazy for pastels now that spring is here, but I thought it’d be fun to give the patio a colorful spring makeover too! I’m used to going to Michael’s and Hobby Lobby for my diy needs, but all of these supplies actually come from Home Depot! A few succulents (the easiest plants to maintain!), some planters and a simple coat of paint. I’m a sucker for the classic red door but this has me considering me a brilliant blue door instead!

Will you be dressing up your patio this spring?

PRABAL GURUNG SPRING 2012

24 Feb

Here’s a little more of our Color of the Week, PLUS those purple paint pants I love so much all courtesy of Prabal Gurung Spring 2012. Yea, Spring. Despite the fact that it is currently Autumn/Winter 2012 Fashion Week. To be honest I find it all so overwhelming! I was actually in New York last fashion week and did find myself at Lincoln Center (to attend Romeo and Juliet by the NYCBallet on Valentine’s Day! Swoon!) but I personally prefer to observe the fashion week frenzy from the comfort of my own Mac with a stack of magazines and a cup of tea. And even that can be overwhelming with so much Twitter/Style.com/blogger coverage. So I’ve retreated back to Spring 2012, which I know and love. I just need some time to get to know the new collections, maybe take them out for a bite to eat, a movie. Yunno before I feel comfortable with them and build that familiarity. Yunno what I mean?

FASHION WEEK:: GIVENCHY S/S12

5 Oct

givenchy fashion week spring summer 2012 ERIN WASSON

Givenchy.
The word “wearable” doesn’t immediately spring to mind.
Which is why I was pleasantly surprised by this season’s collection of wearable, sports-minded looks. I’d almost go so far as to say this is the most wearable collection of the season, for my collared shirt and blazer mood of late. The shades of blush and nude are feminine but not too sweet. The shoes sleek, and minimalist, though I still feel Alexander Wang’s would have gone better. The styling of the metal chokers under the buttoned up collars were so on-trend.
And the giant shark teeth!? Brilliant. They add an edge (heh. heh.) while remaining perfectly polished. Something to look out for while thrifting.

FASHION WEEK:: BAGS! Pt. 2

27 Sep

FASHION WEEK PURSES ACCESSORIES STREET STYLE

I’m absolutely loving all the COLOR this fashion week season. Both on and off the catwalk. Colorful and feminine is the name of the game, have you seen Dolce & Gabbana yet?? Genius. If not, I’ll probably have to do a post on it tomorrow. Along with the announcement of my giveaway winners!

MILAN FASHION WEEK:: PRADA

PRADA SPRING 2012 FASHION WEEK backstage PRADA SPRING 2012 FASHION WEEK PRADA SPRING 2012 FASHION WEEK sunglasses

“Italian men have two loves in their lives: women and cars.”
Miuccia combined everything sweet – roses and pleats and jewels, with the very literal inspiration of vintage cars. Skirts feature flames like those painted on old sports cars, the sunglasses look like car fenders and the shoes look like Matchbox stilettos. Any other designer and this is might be gimmicky, but no doubt Miuccia’s car creations will be EVERYWHERE this spring – editorials, Anna Dello Russo’s feet, everywhere.
Question is, when Topshop starts selling car fender sunglasses, will we be buying them? Or will they look like we stole our little brothers’ Disney glasses?

WHAT SHE WORE:: POPPY DELEVIGNE AT LFW

22 Sep

Poppy Delevigne was a standout for me at London Fashion Week. From her Christopher Kane gorilla dress (which still looks good!) to her green Sass and Bide blazer. And all topped off with her red Ray-Bans — points for anyone who can rock red and green in the summertime. You might also know Poppy’s sister Cara, also a model, I’m sure you’d recognize her if you frequent Asos (Cara has caused me many an Asos purchase!) in addition to being the face of Burberry.

I wouldn’t mind a few of their genes 😉

NEW YORK FASHION WEEK:: RODARTE

Van Gogh.

The dreaminess of Starry Night worked into the dark, romantic silhouettes of Rodarte. I’m just confused as to why this didn’t happen before now!? Along with Van Gogh’s sunflowers artfully erupting all over sundresses and full retro skirts. It’s a match made in starry heaven. The construction is exquisite in that Mulleavy sister way, like those cutouts in the front. I’m so in love with how the swirly girly prettiness is juxtaposed against the dark panda eyes of the models. Rodarte, you beauty!
